The Top Five Special Forces Units in The United States Military and How They Keep You Safe

U.S. special forces teams are among the most elite, highly-trained military units in the world. You've heard of many of them-SEALS, Green Berets, and the Air Force Pararescue Unit, to name a few-but what do they really do, what kinds of tactical and survival gear do they use, and how do they, ultimately, keep you and the rest of us safe?

While there are plenty of other special-ops units within the military that are equally as important, let's take a look at five of the most widely known units.

Under Amour

The Navy Seals

The U.S. Navy's Sea, Air, and Land is one of the most elite and highly-trained units in the Navy, as well as one of the most recognizable. An organization with a storied past, the SEALS fall under the command of the Naval Special Warfare Command (NSWC) and SOCOM.

Seals employ a mixture of extremely rigorous training, tactical and survival gear, and other field equipment to: fight terrorism, aid in foreign/domestic internal defense, provide reconnaissance intel, rescue and recover other military personnel and more. SEALS are assigned some of the most dangerous and specialized missions-missions that other military personnel would not normally be able to accomplish. Seals have served the U.S. in Panama, Iraq, Grenada, and Afghanistan.

The Green Berets: 'De oppresso liber'

The Green Berets, most recognizable by their military uniforms and trademark headgear, are special ops units within the U.S. Army Special Forces. They specialize mainly in special reconnaissance and surveillance(SR), direct action (DA; short-term action for special causes), counter terrorism, guerrilla warfare (or unconventional warfare: UW), and foreign defense.

Air Force Pararescue: 'That Others May Live'

The Air Force Pararescue unit (AFSC) is an elite organization within the U.S. Air Force that specializes in recovery and medical treatment of individuals in hostile or 'denied' areas. Members who opt to join this unit undergo extremely rigorous training-both physical and mental-over a period of one to two years. Up to 90 percent of those who join pararescue training classes never graduate. It's just that strenuous.

The U.S. Rangers: 'Sua Sponte'

Officially known as the 75th Ranger Regiment, the U.S. Rangers is a rapidly-deployable infantry unit based out of Fort Benning, Georgia. Roles of Rangers in the military include air assault, infiltration and extraction, personnel and asset recovery, and aiding other special ops units.

The Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU)

DEVRU, otherwise known as SEAL Team Six, is the unofficial name of another elite forces unit in the Navy. Sometimes even more secret than other SEAL team themselves, DEVGRU is a Tier 1 (known as 'Black' ops) unit-TIER 1 operates at the highest level of military and is typically only accountable to the President of the United States or the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This fact alone means that this unit is not controlled by the usual military hierarchy; furthermore, the unit is so secret that even its official name is classified information.

Many of DEVRU's activities and responsibilities are highly classified and, therefore, unknown. One of its missions since its inception has been countering terrorism-using gear and methods not unlike that of other SEAL units.

Spartan Swords - Unique Armor

The Slicing Sword

Spartan swords were typically shorter than most other swords of the time. Spartans fought mostly on foot, though cavalries were certainly employed at times. Because they attacked in large numbers and in close proximity with their fellow soldiers, longer swords would have been more awkward and less efficient for the Spartans.

Under Amour

The Spartans were so highly militaristic that the way of fighting truly dominated their society. Did you know that the Spartans were Greek? We tend to think of them as separate entities, not as a part of the rest of Greece . This is primarily because of their own self-imposed separation, not only geographically, but especially culturally.

When we think of the ancient Greeks, we tend to think of athletic superiority, the enduring stories and legends of their mythology, great philosophers, stunning architecture and brilliant art, musical excellence, elaborate foods and timeless beauty. Of course, we also think of battle stories and great warriors. But when we think of the Spartans, images of armor-clad, monstrously strong men come to mind and honestly, not much else.. This is because the whole of Spartan society focused solely on war.

Everything for the Spartan man and woman centered around war. All education was physical training for battle; women served in the home and as producers of more strong children to serve the state; men served in the army from the age of 7 to 60.

The Spartans were known for their simplistic way of life, but unlike most groups of people who nurture simplicity for the development of religious virtues, the Spartans chose simplicity so that nothing else would interfere with their intent on war. For this reason, the Spartans have gone down in history as some of the most determined and relentless warriors ever..

As a result of their one-track, vigilant lifestyle seeped in military values, the Spartans developed a rather unique battle strategy that produced an unusual armor. Spartan soldiers were required to own their own sword, shield, and armor; they were not required to own a battle horse as most other armies of the time did. This is because the Spartans' strategy was to charge into their enemy in huge numbers and scatter their enemy, weakening them by separation. The Spartans didn't see much value in dealing with horses for this because, true to their nature, they focused on one style rather than diversity. If they had charged first in cavalry forces, they would have to eventually make the transition to foot. The Spartans had an advantage by starting out on foot and therefore already being in the position of advantage one the enemy was demounted.

Because they charged in large numbers and with the mass of men so close to each others, their swords were designed to thrust, slash and stab at close range. Also the Spartans invented shields that reached well beyond their own bodies so as to help protect their fellow soldiers.

Spartan shields were especially strong and thick compared to the other shields of their opponent armies. For starters, because their swords were shorter than those of their enemies, they depended more on their shields for protection. The design of the shield covered their front torso and over their left shoulders. The most unusual aspect of this design, however, was that the shield often extended so far out to the left that a comrade could also be protected. This extra large size came in handy at the end of battle when the surviving soldiers then used their shields as a stretcher to carry the wounded off the field to a center for rehabilitation.

Armor Ring - Full Finger Medieval Rings That Are As Mysterious As They Are Beautiful

Why is it that some people seem to have an uncanny knack of finding pieces of jewelry to really make an impact not only from the fact that visually they are different but, somehow they are very covetable too? Well, I think that I have seen my own very desirable piece in the form of an armor ring. I certainly have never worn anything that provoked so much reaction and interest that is for sure.

Maybe you have never even heard of, or even seen an armor ring and if this is the case, then I can promise you that you are in for a visual feast. Round and ring like they most definitely are not, more like a finger decoration or adornment, also known as a full finger ring, medieval ring or Gothic ring to name but a few.

Under Amour

The first of the alternative names is a good clue as to how they look and maybe help you visualise what you are going to see. Covering from the base of the finger to either the second knuckle or just below the fingernail depending on the style or design you choose. Each one is pretty much an individual work of art and whilst they can appear masculine, they are also very feminine too. So, unisex is the definite appeal here.

Made of sterling silver or pewter, they are very comfortable and easy to wear. Jointed in 2 or 3 so that they move freely with your hand and finger movement, you can imagine why they create such an impact. They are a ring by definition but, way out of the box when it comes to conforming to your usual ideas of what one is, for sure.

It would appear that they have been kept a well hidden secret by people who prefer the Gothic style of dress and I am not sure how they have managed to do this for such a long time, all credit to you guys. But, the secret is now out and with the likes of some top designers like Vivienne Westwood bringing out her own range you just know that they are an amazing piece of jewelry. After all, if she picks up on and endorses something by putting her own take on it, you know you are on to a unique and quirky winner.

Some of the styles and designs are really intricate works of art and others certainly conjure up images of days gone by when knights fought each other for honour. (Maybe this is the reason for another of the names given to them). I do not know the origins of these fantastic finger pieces but, they could quite easily have quietly survived the changing fashions over the years by staying quietly in the back ground.

If you love to express your individuality and enjoy being a little non conformist or just generally like unusual things then an armor ring will definitely be of interest to you. The difficulty here is choosing from the amazing selection for sure.

When it Comes to Westerns There is No One Quite Like Louis L'Amour

We all have our favorite authors in the various genres that we read, so I suppose it goes without saying that I have my own just like you. Now, then, I do not go around recommending books to read without being asked, however, I do have one I think you should read. The book is called:

"Conagher" by Louis L'Amour (often called America's favorite Storyteller). Bantam Books, New York, NY; 1971.

Under Amour

This book and story was turned into a movie and a series that you may remember, after you read the book you will indeed, recognize this story. The Turner Network bought the movie and plays it still, it also became a network TV show and an exclusive premier and rightfully so. The characters are true to form and the storyline is brilliant, perfect for television and for Hollywood.

Louis L'Amour has written 45 western novels and although I have not read them all, he is definitely amongst my favorite Western Authors and I am sure after you read this book you will also agree. This author has over 225 million books in print. Ah ha, now you understand why he is one of my favorite authors. This writer kicks some serious butt in his novels! This book boasts in the introduction an intriguing story that lies ahead:

Parnell's boys had had their fun with him, all right. They'd tried to gun him down more times than even a slow-tempered saddle tramp would sit still for. Now Conagher was too tired and too mean to be played with anymore. "Parnell" he said, "you've given me grief. All I'm going to give you is a running start. . ."

That's introduction enough, the story catapults the reader into the scene and makes them feel as if they are there, often identifying with one or more characters, boy are you going to love this book!

Wear the armor of God: Does your child enjoy pretending I'm a superhero?

With the upcoming release of Superman Returns in theaters, have kids (and sometimes girls) all over the world asking their mothers for the official Superman Returns costume. If the mother does not agree, they have the costume for $ 25.00 then add a towel on the back of his shirt. They jump off the couch a sort of super hero theme screams, look, if we are affected. What is the appeal of dressing like a superhero? Most children go through the scene, pretendingcan fly, scale buildings and perform their superhuman strength.

If our children from bad guys in real life, acting like a real superhero, change his clothes in a phone booth and conquer their worst enemy, or cower in fear, because, as they were beaten before they even hear start? Most children do not know that already possess superhuman powers of physical without even a costume. Unfortunately, even fewer know how to access theseForce.

Under Amour

As parents we must teach the children how the armor of God, Ephesians 6:13-17 says: "Then take the whole armor of God so that you can withstand in the evil day, and girded your loins with truth, and to wear the armor justice, and with your feet shod with the equipment of the gospel of peace, taking the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvationand the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God "With our children to teach the word of God to help them especially to learn to memorize Scripture, we are in fact she dressed for battle, as cruel and experience the world hard to give, God teaches us that if we speak His word to situations where "under attack" our Army General (Jesus) comes forward and takes the fiery darts for us. Help your children understand that dressing up is not just a game children. There is something we all can and must doour whole life.

God's Armorbearer & The Ministry of Details

And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. -1 Corinthians 12:28 KJV.

The ministry gifts such as apostles, prophets, evangelist, teachers, and pastors receive much acclaim and recognition, as it should be. The Body of Christ needs every office set in the Church by God. However, there is a ministry not mentioned as much also set in the Body by our Lord. That is the ministry of helps. There is an important place for the minister of helps.

Under Amour

How would the church manage without the hands that help with the details? When something practical needs to be done, a person anointed to help steps in and sees to it that the job is completed. God is practical and good and so are they that help.2 The behind-the-scene jobs in the church often go unrecognized. Yet the humble tasks are the ones we benefit from the most.

There are faithful people who maintain the grounds, clean our church, make repairs, do plumbing, assist with the administration, type bulletins, usher, greet, watch babies, make sure the sound and electronics work smoothly, make snacks and food for the church, do dishes or simply help with the details. Praise God for those serving in the ministry of helps.

Through Scripture, we know God placed ministries in the church, not man. 9 A person should not enter the ministry just because someone told them they were suited for it. Let God call you and place you where He wills.10 I encounter many who say, "I'm called to preach." Yet they do not start with the small God puts before them to qualify them for their calling. When you are answering your call to serve, consider God may want you to spend a season in the ministry of helps before He matures you to your ministry office.

Remember Stephen and Phillip, who started in the ministry of helps but later operated as evangelists? They were faithful to help where God assigned them first.11 Also, I must mention that there were five others assigned to help. There are no other references of them in the Bible. I believe they continued faithfully serving in the ministry of helps.

If you are uncertain of your call to the ministry of helps, ask God to confirm your calling. Apostle Peter admonishes us to be diligent with proving that we really are called and chosen by the Lord.12 Give all diligence to exercising and developing His virtues the fruit of the Spirit (listed below), so that you may be effective and productive in your gifts and calling:

oFaith. Exercise your faith at every opportunity. Faith pleases God. Everyone receives a measure of faith to function within whatever gift God has graced him. He whose gift is practical service, let him give himself to serving according to the proportion of his faith.13

oVirtue. After exercising your faith, develop virtue, which is spiritual excellence. Daniel, in serving God and exercising his faith, developed an excellent spirit. So much so that he and his fellow Jewish slaves were found ten times better in all respects than the others assigned to the Kings' service.14

oKnowledge. In developing an excellent spirit, add knowledge. Get to know your Heavenly Father. As we know Him better, we are sure to discover our destiny and what He wants us to do step by step. Paul wrote to the saints in Ephesus, "I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better." 15

oSelf-control. In exercising knowledge, develop self-control. We live in a world of steadily decreasing self-control. The number of road rage incidents is evidence to that. More than half of U.S. Adults are over-weight.16 Many suffer from lack of control in eating habits. Drug abuse and overdose have increased beyond what our ancestors would recognize. In gaining self-control, more and more we learn to put aside our own desires so that we may fulfill God's desires.

oPatience. When allowing the Holy Spirit to help you gain more self-control, add patience. I overheard a teacher's advice to his student, "Never pray for patience, because you will get lots of problems with opportunity to learn patience." The student's reply was, "I don't believe that God would send me problems to teach me anything." Look in on what the Apostle Paul writes the Roman Christians, "We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us--they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it, until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady." 17 What do you think of the teacher's advice?

oGodliness. As you develop patience, put aside your own desires in an increasing measure, so that God may have His way with you in godliness. The Apostle Peter wrote the Jewish Christians and now us, "Obey God, because you are His children; don't slip back into your old ways--doing evil because you knew no better. However, be holy now in everything you do, just as the Lord is holy, who invited you to be His child. He Himself said, 'You must be holy, for I am holy.'" 18

oBrotherly affection. When practicing godliness, develop brotherly affection. Love one another with brotherly affection--as members of one family--giving precedence and showing honor to one another.19 Love the brotherhood of believers.20 Pray for God's people with strong purpose. As you pray for the Body of Christ, interceding on their behalf, your concern will become Christ's compassion. Your hands and feet will become Christ's members, reaching out to the saints. Your affection will become Christ's love flowing through you for His Church.21

oLove. When praying for the church in brotherly affection, finally add love. Let love guide your speech and actions. In my B.C. before Christ days, I would often hurt others by just bluntly telling them the truth. If anyone would say anything to me about it, I would respond with, "Well, it was the truth!" After meeting Christ, I continued with this speaking the truth. But each time I did, I would feel so miserable, I was compelled to apologize. Later, after prayer, the Holy Spirit instructed me I could speak the truth, but in love. I discovered that truth in love is often silent. Let love guide your actions. The Apostle John wrote to his friends in the faith, "Little children, let us stop just saying we love people; let us really love them, and show it by our actions." 22 Let love guide your life. Grow to love more and more.

The more we add and develop these qualities in our life, the more useful and fruitful we will be to our Master, Lord Jesus. We will become the special vessels prepared and ready for the Master's use. In Paul's second letter to Timothy, he encourages us to be like the expensive dishes in God's house, "If you stay away from sin, you will be like one of these dishes made of purest gold--the very best in the house--so that Christ Himself can use you for His highest purposes." 23
